[Wax cylinder scratch and low background hiss throughout.]
Dr. Pike: “Cylinder zero-four-seven-one. Augustus... you claim someone followed you through the chapel walls?”
[Short pause.]
Augustus: [Shivering; frightened whisper, raspy breathing.] “Not someone. A name wearing rooms... It is inside the walls...”
Dr. Pike: “What of the chapel figure? The stone angel?”
Augustus: [Sudden panic.] “It kneels, but it never prays! [Gasp.] You must look beneath it—[panicked whisper] the left knee! Lift the left knee before it takes my voice—” [Choked gasp.]
[Heavy static burst. A gramophone needle scrapes, then cuts out abruptly.]
